Quick Start

If you want a low-risk first run, Batch Rename is a simple place to start. It gives you the full RenamerX review workflow without turning on background automation.

The fastest first-run workflow

1. Open Batch Rename

Use the left sidebar and open Batch Rename.

2. Choose a template

Before importing files, choose a template from the template picker at the top of the page.

If you are just getting started, use a general-purpose built-in template first. You can create more specialized templates later.

3. Add files or folders

Use Add More to:

  • Add individual files.
  • Add one or more folders.

RenamerX will scan what you selected, skip unsupported or temporary files, add supported files to the current workspace, and start processing them.

4. Wait for suggestions

Each file moves through a status flow such as:

  • Pending
  • Extracting
  • Suggested
  • Failed

When a suggestion is ready, you can review it before anything changes on disk.

5. Review the results

In the list workspace you can:

  • Search by keyword.
  • Filter by status.
  • Preview the selected file.
  • Edit the suggested filename.
  • Retry failed items.
  • Ignore items you do not want to process.

6. Apply the rename

When you are satisfied with the suggestions, apply the rename to selected items or the whole reviewed set.

If you want the renamed files to move into a different folder, pick an optional target folder before applying.

7. Undo if needed

If something does not look right after apply, use Undo on the affected items.

Undo is a normal part of the workflow.

Tips for your first batch

  • Start with a small test batch of 5 to 20 files.
  • Use Review First habits even if the names look good immediately.
  • Test one template on one file type before mixing invoices, photos, and videos in the same batch.
  • If a file fails, inspect it rather than forcing everything through.

What to do next

After your first successful batch, most users move on to one of these pages:

  • How it works to understand the full pipeline and when disk changes happen.
  • Batch Rename to understand the workspace in more detail.
  • Templates to customize naming rules.
  • Watch Folders to automate repetitive folders after your template is stable.
