Installation
Install RenamerX, complete first-launch setup, and understand what must happen before the app is ready.
Installing RenamerX happens in two stages:
- Install the desktop app for your platform.
- Complete first-launch resource setup inside the app.
That second stage is part of first-launch setup. RenamerX keeps the initial install lighter by preparing local processing resources on first launch instead of bundling everything into the installer.
Before you install
Make sure you have:
- A supported desktop environment.
- Enough disk space for both the app and local AI resources.
- A stable internet connection for first-launch downloads.
First-launch setup can take longer than the app install itself because RenamerX finishes preparing local processing resources at that stage.
Platform installation
Download the RenamerX build for your platform, then complete the normal desktop install flow.
| Platform | What to do |
|---|---|
| macOS | Install the RenamerX desktop app, then launch it from your Applications workflow. |
| Windows | Run the installer, finish setup, then open RenamerX from the usual Windows app entry point. |
| Linux | Use the available Linux desktop build if you run RenamerX in a compatibility-oriented environment. |
RenamerX runs through its setup flow in the installed desktop app rather than in the browser.
What happens on first launch
When you open RenamerX for the first time, the app enters onboarding and guides you into the resource download step.
At this stage, RenamerX may prepare:
- Local AI processing resources.
- Model files for document and image understanding.
- Media-processing components used by video workflows.
These resources are downloaded into the app-managed cache, not into the folders you plan to rename.

When RenamerX is actually ready
RenamerX is ready for real work only after all of the following are true:
- The desktop app is installed.
- First-launch resource downloads completed successfully.
- Onboarding lets you continue into the main window.
If the app is installed but resource setup is still incomplete, RenamerX is not ready for regular use yet.
What to expect after setup
Once onboarding completes, RenamerX opens into the main app. From there you can:
- Start with Quick Start for a safe first batch.
- Read How it works to understand the main window and workflow model.
- Open Preferences & System Settings if you want to review language, theme, shortcut, billing, or AI runtime settings.
First-launch notes
The installer is smaller than the full working setup
This is expected. Some local processing resources are prepared after installation.
The first launch is slower than later launches
This is common. RenamerX verifies and prepares local resources at this stage.
Local processing is mostly offline after setup
Normal file understanding and rename suggestion generation are designed to run locally after setup. Internet access is still relevant for checkout, license activation, and occasional license validation.
Next steps
A good next page is Quick Start. After that, many users continue into Batch Rename and Templates.
