Check system status and export diagnostics
Identify the RenamerX component that needs attention, recover resources or Built-in Local AI, and export diagnostics when you need support.
System Status tells you whether RenamerX is waiting for resources, Windows hardware, AI Provider configuration, or the Built-in Local AI runtime. Use the state and action shown in each section before reinstalling the app or downloading resources again.
RenamerX opens System Status automatically when required resources are missing and guides you through downloading them. You can also open it from the status icon in the sidebar whenever processing is unavailable or Built-in Local AI will not start.
Read the overall state
The overall state summarizes the checks below it.

| State | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Checking | RenamerX is still inspecting resources, Provider configuration, hardware, or runtime state. | Wait for the check to finish. |
| Available | Built-in Local AI resources and eligible hardware are ready, and the local runtime is running. | Process files, or stop the runtime when you no longer need it. |
| Configured | An external Provider has the required saved configuration and file-processing components are ready. | Use Test connection in Preferences if you need to verify that the service is reachable now. |
| Preparing | A resource download or local runtime startup is in progress. | Keep the app open and wait, or cancel an active download if necessary. |
| Ready to Start | Built-in Local AI resources and hardware are ready, but the local runtime is stopped. | Choose Start Local AI. |
| Setup Required | Required resources or Provider configuration are missing. | Complete the action shown in the affected section. |
| Needs Attention | A resource check, hardware check, configuration, download, or runtime action failed. | Read the affected section and follow its recovery action. |
For an external AI Provider, Configured does not perform a live service check. It means the required fields and local preparation resources are present. Use Preferences → AI Provider & Model → Test connection to test the current endpoint, authentication, model, and image request.
Check each section
System Status separates the problem into visible sections so you can act on the failing condition.
Core Components
This section covers the managed file-processing and AI resources required by the active Provider. Depending on the current state, you can:
- choose Download Resources to install missing components
- choose Cancel Download while a download is in progress
- choose Clean Up to remove downloaded managed components
- choose Re-download to remove and download the required components again
Keep RenamerX open while it verifies a download. If a download fails, check the network and available storage, then try the download again before using Clean Up.
Local AI Hardware on Windows
Windows shows a Local AI Hardware section because Built-in Local AI requires a supported GPU with at least 4 GiB of dedicated video memory. Choose Check hardware again after installing a graphics driver update or changing the hardware.
The check cannot be bypassed when no qualifying GPU is detected. You can still configure an external AI Provider, which does not use the managed Built-in Local AI runtime.
AI Provider
For Built-in Local AI, this section shows whether the local runtime is stopped, starting, running, or failed. Use Start Local AI when it is Ready to Start, and Stop Local AI when it is Available.
For an external Provider, a missing model, URL, or required API key sends you to Preferences. Correct the fields and use Save & Activate, which tests the configuration before activation.

Use Clean Up with care
Clean Up removes RenamerX’s downloaded managed components. Built-in Local AI and file preparation that depend on those components remain unavailable until the required resources are downloaded again.
Clean Up does not delete your source files, applied files, templates, preferences, or license state. Use it when resource verification reports damage or repeated startup failures point to installed resources. Do not use it as the first response to an unrelated file or Provider error.
Export a diagnostic bundle
When you need to investigate a persistent failure or share details with support, open Preferences → Support and choose Export diagnostics. RenamerX creates a ZIP on your device and reveals it in the file manager. Exporting does not upload or send the ZIP automatically.

The bundle includes this troubleshooting context:
- app, operating-system, hardware, resource, runtime, and Provider summaries
- recent frontend and system logs
- recent fatal-error markers
- database health, file-item error, permission, recovery, and preference summaries
RenamerX excludes Provider API keys, the plaintext license key, your original files, complete extracted file content, full embedded metadata, and a copy of the complete database. Inspect the ZIP before sharing it and send it only to a recipient you trust. If a path or log line is sensitive, redact the copied bundle while preserving the original for your own investigation.
A focused recovery sequence
When processing is unavailable, use this order:
- Open System Status and wait for Checking to finish.
- Act on the first section that shows Setup Required or Needs Attention.
- Download missing components, or recheck Windows hardware when that section failed.
- Correct and activate the external Provider, or start Built-in Local AI.
- Run a small batch of files to verify recovery.
- Export a diagnostic bundle only if the same failure continues.
